Student receives $6,000 National Phi Eta Sigma Scholarship

Submitted by Monica Strathman

Brent Weaver, senior majoring in English from Wichita, was awarded a $6,000 scholarship for the 2014-2015 academic year from the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society.

Phi Eta Sigma is the nation's oldest and largest honor society for first-year college and university students in all disciplines. Inspired by the past and dedicated to the future, the society's mission is to encourage and reward academic excellence among freshmen in institutions of higher learning. Each year, Phi Eta Sigma awards more than $295,000 in scholarships to its members nationwide.

Weaver was inducted into the K-State chapter of Phi Eta Sigma in 2012. He served as the community service chair for the organization for more than a year before being elected president in November 2013. Weaver intends to continue his education after completing a bachelor's degree in December 2014.
