Hunger U Food and Nutrition Security Forum May 5-6
Hunger U will have an interactive mobile display May 5-6 in Bosco Plaza. The Hunger U Tour, a project of Farmers Feeding the World, is dedicated to connecting with college students and sharing the story of modern agriculture's role in tackling world hunger.
In coordination with Hunger U's visit, K-State will present a faculty panel on "Food and Nutrition Security: K-State Perspectives" from noon-1 p.m. Monday, May 5, in the K-State Student Union's Forum Hall. The panel will feature John Floros, dean of the College of Agriculture and director of K-State Research and Extension; Dirk Maier, professor and head of grain science and industry; Gerad Middendorf, associate professor of sociology; and Randy Phebus, professor of animal sciences and industry with K-State's Food Science Institute.
It may be that hunger, malnutrition and food insecurity are, as Universities Fighting World Hunger has recently suggested, the "gravest of threats to a sustainable world." Therefore, please consider engaging with Hunger U's interactive display, and please consider attending the K-State faculty forum. There may be no better way to begin to learn about these urgent issues, or about how Kansas State University addresses them at present and, per K-State 2025, is planning to address them in the years ahead.
Both Hunger U and the K-State faculty panel are free and open to the public. For more information, please contact Steve Dandaneau, vice provost for undergraduate studies, at dandaneau@k-state.edu or 785-532-1097.
