K-State Public Relations Student Society of America elects 2014-2015 executive board
The K-State Public Relations Student Society of America — or PRSSA — elected the 2014-2014 executive board on Monday.
K-State juniors Som Kandlur and Katie Good will lead the executive board as president and vice-president.
"I'm looking forward to working with a great bunch of people to take this chapter to the next level and to improve on the work done by past leaders," Kandlur said.
Junior Sydney Pugh will serve as the communications chair for the chapter. Rafael Ramos, sophomore, will be the treasurer/secretary and junior Leah Hill will be the fundraising chair. Natalie Johnston, junior, was voted as recruitment chair. The agency director position is currently vacant, but will be filled in the near future.
Andy DiOrio, Accredited in Public Relations or APR, and Matt Tidwell, APR, were approved as professional advisers for the organization. Barbara DeSanto, assistant professor of journalism and mass communications, APR and fellow of the Public Relations Society of America, was voted to continue serving as the chapter academic adviser.
The Public Relations Student Society of America is a pre-professional student organization composed of more than 11,000 students and advisers organized into more than 300 chapters in the U.S., Argentina and Colombia. The Public Relations Society of America — the parent organization to Public Relations Student Society of America — supports the mission of student society by providing networking opportunities, professional development and news.
The K-State student society is devoted to helping students gain practice and understanding of the world of public relations. Their mission is to serve its members and the profession by enhancing the knowledge of public relations and providing access to professional development opportunities.
On Monday, the chapter also approved the bylaws for the 2014-2015 year and elected their new executive council. The new board members will hold responsibility in growing chapter membership, providing stronger opportunities for members to become well-prepared professionals and spreading its advocacy role in ethics and diversity.
"I'm excited to be working with this group of students," DeSanto said. "We have a bright future ahead of us and are striving for bigger and better opportunities. K-State PRSSA will only continue to grow as a chapter as we head into the 2014-2015 academic year."
