K-State journalism student wins prestigious Telly Award

Submitted by steve harvey

Maile Widman, senior in mass communications from Lenexa, has won a Bronze Telly Award from the Silver Telly Council for her 30-second public service announcement, "Wildcat Watch PSA."

The Telly Awards competition receives more than 13,000 entries annually from the finest ad agencies, production companies, TV stations, cable companies, interactive agencies, corporations and universities in the world.

"I was really shocked; I didn't think I would win," Widman said.

Widman is the head of the board of directors for Wildcat Watch, a student video production group. Wildcat Watch is open to all students on campus. Wildcat Watch shoots video productions and multicamera shoots for K-State events such as "K-State's Got Talent," "K-State Idol" and "The OPUS Band Competition."

"This award gives a ton of credibility and speaks volumes to the high quality of talent and creative eye for myself and the crew of Wildcat Watch, Widman said. "This is a great honor."

"Maile has worked very hard and has earned this award," said Steve Harvey, Wildcat Watch faculty advisor and journalism news director and instructor. "The Wildcat Watch and Channel 8 News students produce very high professional quality stories and projects. That's why so many of the Wildcat Watch and Channel 8 News kids are getting jobs in the fields of their choice. I am very impressed with their work and I am very proud of Maile. This is a very big award for her and the journalism school."
