Alianza Scholarship Awards Ceremony April 29

Alianza, the faculty-staff alliance for Hispanic/Latino affairs at K-State, is celebrating undergraduate students' excellence at its annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony at 4 p.m. Friday, April 29, in 119 Bluemont Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend.
Alianza will award the following scholarships to deserving students for the 2016- 2017 academic year:
- Douglas Benson Alianza Scholarship, $1,000: Alejandra González, Spanish.
- Alianza Scholarship, $500: Klarissa Calvillo, women's studies and psychology; María Chávez, sociology; Jesús Loera, chemical engineering; Luis Jonathan Muñoz, English; Paloma Roman, athletic training; and Zaira Ruiz, humanities.

Leobardo Prieto, community outreach director for Truman Medical Centers in Kansas City, will receive Alianza's Distinguished Alumni Award.
Prieto, a former president of HALO, earned his law degree from the University of Kansas. In 2015, he received the Ohtli Award from the Mexican government, the highest recognition given to an individual outside of Mexico for his extensive work in Washington, D.C., and Kansas City for the Latino/Hispanic community.
