Events to highlight Banned Books week
In observance of Banned Books Week, Sept. 24-Oct. 1, Sigma Tau Delta International English Honor Society, the department of English and K-State Libraries are co-sponsoring a series of events.
- Students, faculty and staff will read their favorite excerpts from banned books daily from 11 a.m to 1 p.m. in the Free Speech Zone at Bosco Student Plaza.
- Until Oct. 5 an exhibit at Hale Library will display the American Library Association's top 10 list of banned or challenged books for 2010 along with the reasons for challenge or removal.
- A panel discussion on censorship will be 3:30-4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, in the K-State Student Union Little Theater. Panel members will include K-State faculty, Manhattan Public Library staff and teachers from USD 475. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions about banned books, censorship and practical matters regarding controversy in libraries and the classroom.
