Powell speaks on food safety and social media
Douglas Powell, professor of food safety, gave an invited presentation by video to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control's 15th annual PulseNet Update Meeting/seventh annual OutbreakNet Conference in Long Beach, Calif., Sept. 22.
Powell spoke on how combining the best food safety messages with the appropriate medium are key to improving food safety. From posters in bathrooms to shocking videos on YouTube, social media presents a range of opportunities for improving food safety. But each must be thoroughly evaluated to determine if the efforts actually result in fewer sick people.
