College of Business Administration launches Jump Start program for new transfer students

The College of Business Administration, with the assistance of funding from a K-State Summer grant, hosted 28 transfer students on campus in August to get a jump start on their success at K-State.

The objective of the Jump Start program was to help transfer students with their transition to K-State and to get them prepared for the fall semester. The students completed two courses — GENBA 101, Business Orientation for no credit, taken with their assigned academic advisor, and GENBA 110, Business Foundations for three credits — over the course of three weeks.

"I really enjoyed getting a head start in my academic career; I felt on track taking this course in the summer rather than in the fall," said one of the Jump Start students. "I liked meeting new people, especially since it was a transfer program. I'm sure we all felt nervous starting a class with new people, but it has helped me feel less nervous for my fall classes."

The students also had the opportunity to complete step one for their professional advantage certification. This included sessions with career coaches for their intended major, workshops on the CareerLeader assessment, Personal Branding, Resume Building, Networking and a Maximize Your Money event hosted by Powercat Financial.

The students also had the opportunity to complete a personal academic plan, build upon their CliftonStrengths, and take a tour of key resources across campus.
