Research Administrators Council to meet Oct. 9
The K-State Research Administrators Council will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Oct. 9 in 227 K-State Student Union. After announcements from key offices, participants will hear a presentation by KC Olson, professor of animal sciences and industry.
Olson's area of concentration is range beef cattle nutrition and management. One of his specialties is Sericea Lespedeza, a noxious weed that thrives in Kansas and crowds out more palatable forages. Sericea has few insect or disease problems and is not adequately controlled by herbicides. It is a serious, and expensive, problem for our state.
From 2013-18, Olson was funded more than half a million dollars by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to evaluate late-season burning and its effects on Sericea. Last year, College of Agriculture administrators and staff worked with Olson to bring together a group of almost 70 individuals from many different agencies within the state, including county weed directors, KDOT, KTA, Koch Industries and landowners.
