Military affairs director to moderate panel discussion at Kansas 2018 International Film Festival

Submitted by Art DeGroat

Retired Army Lt. Col. Art DeGroat, executive director of K-State's military and veterans affairs, was selected to co-produce and moderate a "Media and the Military" panel discussion as part of the 2018 Kansas International Film Festival at 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 17. The event is open to the public at no cost and will take place at the Glenwood Arts Theater, 3707 W. 95th St., Overland Park.

The purpose of this public discussion is to develop generationally diverse perspectives on how the media (film) shapes individual and public/societal perceptions about contemporary military service, war and status of veterans. DeGroat is recognized as a national expert on the impact of military service on the life course. He also is recognized as a pioneer in the use of the arts as a catalyst for social change regarding the American military.

Panel members will include a former Vietnam War combat cameraman, a graphic artist of the "Hope 22" exhibit, a Kansas City TV news anchor, and an active Army public affairs officer.
