Percussion students receive coaching session with internationally recognized Sō Percussion ensemble, perform to capacity audience
K-State Percussion Ensembles I and II performed to a capacity audience during the annual Percussive Arts Society Kansas Chapter Day of Percussion on March 23 on the University of Kansas campus.
The concert followed a coaching session that Percussion Ensemble I members received from members of Sō Percussion, an internationally recognized percussion quartet that creates and presents new collaborative works to adventurous and curious audiences and educational initiatives to engaged students.
K-State students Braedon Bomgardner, sophomore in music education, and Nathan Leininger, freshman in music education, participated in the event's collegiate percussion competition. In the field of competitors from Kansas, Nebraska and Oklahoma, Bomgardner and Leininger took third place in the keyboard percussion and snare drum categories, respectively. Leininger also was a member of an auditioned ensemble that performed with Sō Percussion on the event's final concert.
