Nominate a faculty member for outstanding mentoring of undergraduate students in research
The provost’s office is offering the fifth annual award for excellence in faculty mentoring of undergraduate students in research. The award is given to a faculty member at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor, based upon mentoring that occurred in the previous academic year. An award of $2,500 is provided. Eligible faculty may be nominated by K-State faculty, students, staff or administrators, and the deadline for receipt of nominations is Feb. 22. Applications are available at http://www.k-state.edu/provost/enrichment/awards/presfacundres.html and should be submitted electronically in PDF format to Gail Zeak at gaill@k-state.edu.
Nomination criteria include evidence of:
- Ongoing scholarly activity by the faculty member and demonstrated support of students’ professional and scholarly development (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, presentations, and other scholarly activities).
- Mentoring activities (e.g., engaging students with other undergraduates, faculty, and professional organizations; scholarship support; pre-professional activities; post-baccalaureate applications).
- Successful and inclusive recruitment (e.g., of other faculty to mentor undergraduate researchers, including students from diverse backgrounds and underrepresented groups).
