President Richard Myers proclaims Sept. 12-20 as Welcoming Week at Kansas State University

Submitted by Office of International Programs

Recognizing that "students and scholars from all over the world are a vital part of our community — bringing fresh prospectives and new ideas, leading clubs and organizations and contributing to the vibrant diversity that we all value," President Richard Myers proclaims Sept. 12-20 as Welcoming Week. Welcoming Week 2020 is part of a national movement with NAFSA as a partner of the sponsor organization, Welcoming America. NAFSA, the largest and most comprehensive association of professionals committed to advancing international higher education, has members that make their campuses and communities more welcoming places for international students and scholars. Kansas State University has a long-standing relationship with NAFSA with many faculty and international programs staff as members.

"It is important for our university to join this initiative to remind our campus community the value and unique contribution that every student at Kansas State makes," said Sara Thurston, director of International Student and Scholar Services, and member-at-large of the NAFSA board of directors. "Many thanks to all the students and scholars who have chosen Kansas State University as their home away from home. We are glad you are here!"

Welcoming America leads a movement of inclusive communities becoming more prosperous by making everyone feel like they belong.

Grant Chapman, associate provost for international programs, is proud of Kansas State University's continued commitment to our international students and scholars as evidenced by President Myers' proclamation.

"I am thankful for Kansas State University's continued International Student and Scholar Services, English Language Programs, and Student Life programs and services for our students," Chapman said.
