Porath co-authors article on teaching and learning
Suzanne Porath, assistant professor of curriculum and instruction, co-authored a journal article published in Teaching & Learning Inquiry, the official journal of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.
"Examining the Focus of SoTL Literature — Teaching and Learning?" was written by a group of scholars who collectively represented seven institutions, three countries and six disciplines. Based on their analysis of 299 empirical articles, the authors argue that the scholarship of teaching and learning as a field is focused primarily on teacher activity rather than student learning, despite efforts to broaden its scope.
"In 2019, I attended and presented at the society’s international conference in Atlanta where I joined the International Collaborative Writing Groups program that matched scholars from different disciplines who were interested in the same topic," Porath said. "For more than a year and a half — before, during and after the conference — the seven of us met to determine our research focus, conduct the research, write and edit together. It was a wonderful experience."
