Speaker to talk about followership Thursday
Julian Barling, Queen's School of Business in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, will present "Enough about leadership: Let's talk about followership" from 4-5 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in Town Hall at the Leadership Studies Building.
The heroic model of leadership that seems to dominate so much of the way we think about, teach and research leadership may limit what we know about, and how we practice, organizational leadership. Focusing on findings from four different areas, namely labeling effects such as the F-word, mortality salience, leader personality and upward influence, Barling will suggest that bringing followers back into the fold will expand our understanding of the effects of leaders, and open up opportunities to increase leadership effectiveness.
The lecture is co-sponsored by the department of psychological sciences, School of Leadership Studies and the College of Business Administration.
