Civil engineeing graduate student takes first place in master's competition
Syeda Rubaiyat Aziz, graduate student in civil engineering, took first place in the master's competition at the inaugural Oklahoma Transportation Center's Heartland Transportation Consortium Student Competition. Her presentation was titled "An Observational Study on Pedestrian Walking Speed at Signalized Intersections."
Aziz’s major professor is Mustaque Hossain, civil engineering. Her presentation was based on a project completed as part of a traffic engineering class taught by Sunanda Dissanayake, associate professor of civil engineering.
Approximately 30 students from Oklahoma, Kansas, Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Colorado participated in the competition, sponsored by the Oklahoma Transportation Center, April 2-4. The award carried a $1,000 cash prize.
