Distinguished Professor Chambers named to Spanish research board
Submitted by Edgar Chambers IV
Edgar Chambers IV, university distinguished professor of sensory analysis and consumer behavior, has been named as one of five members of a board to advance science in Spain. The board, ValER, is supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and is designed to increase science and technology across all areas of science, including natural, physical, health, social/behavioral and humanities, in Spain.
The first job of the board will be to set a science policy related to hiring outstanding senior scientists from outside Spain. The board will establish committees in the various areas of science to hire 10 outstanding senior scientists for Spanish universities in the Valencian region. The positions will be permanent positions funded by the Spanish government. Ten new positions will be added each year. Chambers will be responsible for the Committee on Natural and Health Sciences and will assist with the Committee on Social and Behavioral Sciences. The board also will make the final recommendation for the hiring of the senior scientists and placement in Spanish universities in Valencia.
In the future, the board will set additional policies for science development. The board is under the direction of the Minister of Science through an educational foundation established by the ministry.
