Submitted by Jennifer Thornburg
Karen Pedersen, dean of K-State's Global Campus, was an invited keynote presenter for an executive leadership development course with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. Sponsored by the institution’s vice chancellor through the Centre for Capacity Building and Innovation, the theme for the leadership development short course was “A Journey to Excellent Leadership."
Attendance for Pedersen’s virtual session included more than 425 worldwide participants. Her two-hour managing change session focused attendees on four key questions, including:
- Why change — what are the drivers of change especially in higher education?
- What does it take to develop and implement effective change management strategies?
- How can we engage all stakeholders while managing resistance?
- When do we celebrate our success/failure and assess our lessons learned?
As a certified Prosci change management practitioner, Pedersen shared many valuable insights and resources as part of her session.
"Given the changes every higher education institution has faced in recent years or will be facing, it was a wonderful opportunity to engage with these worldwide higher education leaders as they move their institution’s change initiatives forward,” Pedersen said.
