Student organizers to host forums for Manhattan City Commission and school board candidates
Student organizers have partnered with the political science department and the Institute for Civic Discourse and Democracy to host two candidate forums in advance of the 2023 election.
On Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 7-8:30 p.m., USD 383 school board candidates will share their vision for the Manhattan-Ogden school district. On Monday, Oct. 23, from 7-8:30 p.m., Manhattan City Commission candidates will discuss their policy goals if elected to the commission. Both forums will occur in the Wildcat Chamber inside the K-State Student Union.
Three Manhattan High School students from the Civic Engagement Club and The Mentor student newspaper will moderate the USD 383 candidate forum. The moderators for the Manhattan City Commission forum include Sue Peterson, retired chief government relations officer for the university, and Robbin Cole, CEO of Pawnee Mental Health Services.
Everyone is invited to attend, and faculty are encouraged to promote these forums to their students. As a student-led initiative on campus, one of the goals of the forums is to increase K-State student turnout in the 2023 Manhattan election.
