Updated COVID-19 vaccine available at Lafene Health Center
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that everyone ages six months and older get the updated 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccine to protect against serious illness.
Everyone ages five years and older should get one updated COVID-19 vaccine at least two months after getting the last dose of any COVID-19 vaccine. The updated vaccine is safe and effective at protecting against COVID-19-related hospitalization and death, and it also reduces your chance of suffering the effects of long COVID. Spikevax by Moderna is a single-dose vaccine that is now available at Lafene Health Center for students, faculty and staff.
Getting vaccinated is especially important for people at the highest risk for severe illness, including:
- Older adults.
- People who have certain health conditions.
- People who have a weakened immune system.
- People who are pregnant.
Protection from previous vaccination or infection weakens over time. This updated vaccine is a better match to protect against the most common variants circulating now. You and your family members ages six months and older should get an updated COVID-19 vaccine to protect against the potentially serious outcomes of COVID-19 illness this fall and winter.
For people with health insurance, most plans will cover the COVID-19 vaccine at no cost to you. People who don't have health insurance, or those with health plans that do not cover the cost, can get a free vaccine from the local health department.
You can get a flu vaccine at the same time as a COVID-19 vaccine. Schedule an appointment by calling 785-532-6544 or through the myLAFENE+ patient portal.
