Rosana Ferreira to present Division of Biology Seminar
Submitted by Division of Biology
Rosana Ferreira, assistant professor in the department of molecular biology at the University of Kansas, will present "Searching for Bioactive Compounds Produced by Skin Commensals" as part of the Division of Biology Seminar Series at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19, in 221 Ackert Hall.
The skin microbiome plays an important role in our health by protecting us against colonization and infection by pathogens. Ferreira's lab is interested in studying how bacterial interactions within the skin microbiome can affect pathogen colonization, host dependent skin microbiome establishment and skin microbiome composition. In this talk, Ferreira will explore some of the ways we have been studying these interactions to discover bioactive molecules and understand the mechanisms involved on their activity.
