K-State Alerts upgrades, changes launch today

Submitted by Brandon Chance

Students, faculty and staff:

As part of the university's continuous efforts to evaluate and enhance security on our campuses, the K-State Alerts emergency notification system has been upgraded.

Our goal is to keep you safe in case of an emergency and to relay time-critical information that immediately impacts our campuses. This could be related to weather, campus operations, closures or other emergencies. We hope those kinds of emergency events never happen, of course, but the alerts enhancements will help ensure that you are notified as quickly as possible in case they do.

All students, faculty and staff are now automatically enrolled in K-State Alerts email and text messages. Everyone is assigned a campus location based on where they work or attend classes as listed in HRIS or KSIS to receive alerts targeted to their designated campus. Online students and employees who work remotely are grouped together and will receive alerts for critical universitywide messaging regardless of location.

You can manage your notification settings through the new K-State Alerts online portal. Please take the following steps to review your contact information:

  • Review preferred and mobile phone numbers for students in KSIS or for employees in HRIS.

  • Review, delete or add other phone numbers or email addresses in the portal. Three total email addresses and three of each type of phone number can receive K-State Alerts.

  • Text alerts are one of the quickest ways to receive emergency information and K-Staters are strongly encouraged to remain subscribed. If you do not want to receive K-State Alerts via text message, reply STOP if you receive a future text alert. NOTE: You may not unsubscribe from email alerts.

  • If you wish to receive notifications from other campuses, you can customize your notifications in the portal. There are three options:
    • Manhattan
    • Salina
    • Olathe
K-State visitors can still receive emergency text messages at all three campuses by texting KSTATEVISITOR to 67283.

Your safety is our top priority, and these important enhancements reflect our commitment to continually evaluate and enhance our security efforts. More information about the alerts system and how you can customize your notifications can be found on the K-State Alerts page

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me at brandonchance@k-state.edu if you have questions or concerns.

Thanks for partnering with us in keeping our campuses safe.
