Reminder: Juneteenth now a university holiday
The university will reduce activity on Wednesday, June 19, in recognition of Juneteenth, which the Kansas Board of Regents approved as a university holiday starting this year. The university will not hold classes and most offices will be closed.
Juneteenth, officially known as Juneteenth National Independence Day, is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery. It became a federal holiday in 2021; Kansas designated it as a state holiday in October of last year.
As is the case with all university holidays, a few departments/offices will remain open at reduced activity to support essential university operations. A small number of previously scheduled summer camps also will continue activities on the Manhattan and Salina campuses.
The university will reopen for normal operations on Thursday, June 20.
