Pietro Poggi-Corradini named head of mathematics
Pietro Poggi-Corradini, professor in the mathematics department, has been named head of the department by Chris Culbertson, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, effective June 9.
Poggi-Corradini joined the math department as an assistant professor in 1998 and became a full professor in 2005. He has served as graduate program director and deputy undergraduate director. He helped create an applied mathematics faculty group and draft a proposal for a new Bachelor of Science in applied mathematics. He also co-founded the NODE group, an interdisciplinary research group focusing on applications of data and network analysis.
His research interests include network science and graph theory, complex analysis, geometric function theory, analysis on metric spaces, iteration and probability. He consistently publishes journal articles, receives external funding and mentors doctoral students.
"We are pleased that Dr. Poggi-Corradini will be the next head of the math department," said Culbertson. "He is the right person to lead the department through the math pathway design process and the work needed to successfully meet our Next-Gen K-State strategic plan goals."
Poggi-Corradini received his bachelor's degree in mathematics from Universitá Statale di Milano in 1992, and his doctoral degree in mathematics from the University of Washington in 1996. He did a postdoctoral fellowship as a Whyburn Instructor at University of Virginia from 1996-1998.
