Following an election this past spring, the natural resources and environmental sciences, or NRES, secondary major welcomes Matthew Kirk, associate professor of geology; Prathap Parameswaran, associate professor of civil engineering; and Matthew Sanderson, professor of sociology, anthropology, and social work, to its governing board. All faculty members will serve three-year terms beginning July 1 and ending June 30, 2027.

Outgoing board member Trisha Moore, associate professor of biological and agricultural engineering, completed her term of service. The NRES board thanks longtime board member Moore for volunteering her valuable time and expertise in service to the secondary major and its students.

NRES was approved by the Kansas Board of Regents in 1992 and was the first interdisciplinary program established at Kansas State University. Nearly 900 students from eight colleges and more than 40 primary majors have earned the secondary major and are using their expertise in a diverse array of career fields in natural resource management and sustainability.

Board members have a unique opportunity to collaborate with colleagues with similar research interests and to positively shape the future of an already successful interdisciplinary program designed to help students make significant contributions to environmental science, sustainability and stewardship of natural resources.
