Call for Encuentro conference workshop proposals
The fall semester is fast approaching, and Student Belonging and Inclusion is beginning to plan the 18th Annual HALO Encuentro Student Leadership Conference scheduled for October 1, 2024.
The goal of the Encuentro is to provide an environment where high school students can learn about the unexpected challenges they may encounter during their collegiate years, and how others before them have overcome challenges and obtained their educational goals. It is also an educational tool that assists in Latino and Hispanic student identity development.
During the program, students will attend a variety of workshops on how to navigate the university, applying for scholarships, building their community around identity and much more. If faculty or staff members are interested in hosting a workshop that would be valuable for the attendees of Encuentro, please submit a workshop proposal.
Student Belonging and Inclusion will need the following information on the proposed workshop:
- Session title — short title that is creative yet descriptive
- Abstract/summary — short description about the workshop
- Session takeaways/engagement strategies — Clear session outcomes, takeaways and creative engagement strategies are essential components of every session. Please clearly describe what participants will know or be able to do after participating in the session. A successful proposal must also include the specific and creative ways in which the presenter(s) will engage with participants.
If selected, the workshop would be presented once during the breakout session one slot and again during the breakout session two slot.
Workshop proposals should be emailed to both Mirta Chavez, mirta@k-state.edu, and Brandon Clark, bclark@k-state.edu. Proposals are due by September 9.
