K-State professors coauthor next textbook about advanced technologies to benefit society
Three Kansas State University professors published the ninth book in the series devoted to uncrewed aircraft systems, or UAS, counter-uncrewed aircraft systems, or CUAS, uncrewed underwater vehicles, or UUV, and space. Titled "Advanced Technologies for Humanity," it is a vision and hope of using advanced technologies to benefit society.
Randall Nichols, senior professor at K-State Salina, Patricia Ackerman, retired K-State Salina professor, and Haley Larson, teaching assistant professor at K-State Olathe, collaborated to coauthor Advanced Technologies for Humanity.
In this book, the authors change the perspective from advanced weapons and intelligence potentially harmful to humanity, to exploring the use of advanced technologies to benefit society. Two chapters focus directly on feeding the planet and improving agriculture production. Four chapters discuss artificial intelligence, mobility, robotics and Internet of Things and how they benefit communities and organizations. One chapter addresses the principles of plain language and helping human readers find and understand important information. Three chapters examine specialized threats of biotechnology and AI, social media behaviors and the metaverse. Two chapters demonstrate the use of a Systems Dynamics View and Balanced Humanitarian Technology Security, the use of wargaming with AI, and how it can be applied to planning. The last topic covered is quantum computing and its effects on every phase of information, decision-making and cryptography.
Coauthored by K-State subject matter experts in their fields, the book is a vision and hope of using advanced technologies to benefit society.
The book is available via Pressbooks, and Kindle and Softcover on Amazon.
