Jones named civil engineering department head
Christopher Jones, holder of the Civil Engineering Alumni Professorship Honoring Dr. Robert Snell and professor at Kansas State University, has been named head of the civil engineering department.
The announcement was made by Matt O'Keefe, dean of the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering. Jones had been serving as the interim head of the department since spring 2023.
"I am thankful for Chris' leadership over the last year and a half during this time of transition for the civil engineering department," O'Keefe said. "As we remove the interim tag from his position, I am confident he will lead this department in a way that builds on its existing momentum and continues to make student success a top priority."
Jones joined the department in 2017 after six years of work at Sandia National Laboratories following his doctoral program at Texas A&M University. Jones also received his bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas A&M University.
Jones' current research interest areas include mechanics and materials, computational structural mechanics and uncertainty quantification, in addition to Portland cement concrete. In addition to his research, Jones has a strong passion for teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
