Campus traffic safety tips
Submitted by Division of Facilities
The Manhattan campus will be busy during the fall semester with several K-State and City of Manhattan construction projects. As you move through campus, keep the following safety tips in mind.
Observe all traffic signals, especially the new signal devices on North Manhattan Avenue. Only proceed to walk when the walk signal is active and the pedestrian symbol is illuminated in white. Make sure vehicles are stopped at the stop light before crossing the street.
Be aware of your surroundings, limit the use of cell phones and headphones, and always use designated crosswalks when walking around campus, especially in busy areas or near vehicles.
If you drive to campus, be patient in parking lots and roads, watch out for pedestrians and parking lot blind spots, and drive at or below the speed limit on campus roads. Plan for your commute to take a little longer than normal when driving to campus.
Be prepared for changes in traffic flow due to construction, and follow any detour signs or guidance from crew members who are directing traffic.
Do not cross or bypass construction fences, caution tape or barricades, as these are there to keep everyone safe.
