National conference in Manhattan will bring together scientists and land stewards to address grassland conservation

Submitted by Zak Ratajczak

K-State faculty and students will participate at the Natural Areas Association Conference, hosted in Manhattan Oct. 7-10. At least 300 participants are expected.

The focus will be on meeting the challenges facing the Great Plains — how do we conserve the species unique to this region while also supporting the livelihoods of those who live and work here? This conference will bring together private land owners, scientists, state/federal officials, NGOs and others to try and meet this challenge. This will be an opportunity to feature K-State research and generate discussion between the work we do at K-State and the citizens of Kansas that we serve.

There is still time to register for the conference online, and in-person registration is an option.

K-State students and faculty will give presentations, lead tours of the Konza Prairie Biological Station, give a plenary session, and a closing symposia on grassland conservation and management.

The conference will be hosted by the Natural Areas Association. For the past 50 years, the association has gathered federal, tribal, state, regional and local natural areas practitioners from nonprofit organizations, private industry and academic institutions to foster communication and collaboration that can lead to progress in connection to challenges in the management of natural areas. The agenda content is developed by land stewards for land stewards.
