Advisor Forum presents October Charlie Award

The K-State Advisor Forum announces that Kelsie Johnston, academic advisor in the College of Architecture, Planning & Design, has been selected for the October Charlie Award.

Johnston was nominated for this award by Mitzi Farmer, director of academic services for APDesign, for her exceptional care and attention to the students.

Farmer wrote, "Kelsie is dedicated to effective advising with demonstrated care, empowerment, respect and inclusive relationship building. Kelsie quickly gained complex curriculum knowledge for program completion accurate advising. Kelsie brings cheerful and supportive energy to her role as an academic advisor. Kelsie's advisees trust her academic guidance and reach out to her for many university resources. She effectively works with faculty/staff and students with various backgrounds, communication and learning styles. Her detailed notetaking of each studio year cohort of students helps support course scheduling, encouraging students interested in getting minors/certificates and tracking program progress. Kelsie's proactive approach and excellent presentation skills supports her high number of advisees. She shines with group advising sessions which help build student cohort belonging. For June 2024 NSO orientation, Kelsie led many of the in-person presentations with audience engagement, friendly discourse, timely attention for keeping the group on track for their next programmed event. As a team member within APDesign's centralized advising model, her inclusive collaboration and team support is very valuable. The advising team appreciates Kelsie's ability to seek solutions, streamline processes and friendly demeanor which are worthy assets within a team. Kelsie is an essential team member of the College of Architecture, Planning & Design."

Associate Dean Katie Kingery-Page added, "Kelsie Johnston brings qualities of fairness, thoroughness and inquisitiveness to her relationships with students. From initial enrollment, matriculation to upper-level courses and navigation of off-campus experiences like internships, Kelsie is a trusted advisor to her students. She is also quick to volunteer and help with all student success initiatives — she is a true service-oriented leader."

The K-State Advisor Forum thanks Johnston for the work she does and congratulates her on this award.

Once a nomination is received, it remains an active nomination for one full year. One award will be given out at the beginning of each month. The Advisor Forum Committee will make the decision and deliver awards.
