Vaughan appointed interim coordinator of the Spectrum Center

Submitted by Kevin Cook

Mariya Vaughan will be assuming the role of interim coordinator of the Spectrum Center at Kansas State University. In this interim position, Vaughan will lead initiatives that continue to foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for the university's LGBTQ+ community.

Mirta Rodriquez-Chavez, assistant vice president of student belonging and inclusion, shared her excitement about this appointment: "I feel extremely fortunate to have found someone such as Mariya with the experience and commitment to working in the Spectrum Center and supporting our K-State students."

Vaughan, who is also the assistant director of K-State First, expressed her vision for the Spectrum Center: "The Spectrum Center is an essential space and place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender — LGBT — students, staff, and faculty, and allied members of our campus and surrounding communities to find support, connect to important resources and build community. I look forward to not only engaging in the essential work that has been done but also finding new ways to connect all within our broad communities both on and off campus to continue fostering a sense of belonging that this important resource provides to our university."

With Vaughan's leadership and passion, we are confident that the Spectrum Center will continue to be a vital resource for the K-State community.
