Mann and Peters selected as recipients of the August Staff Spotlight Award

Submitted by Renee Gates

Emily Mann, academic advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences, and Jesse Peters, computer/system specialist at K-State Olathe, have been selected as the August recipients of the Staff Spotlight Award. The Staff Spotlight Award highlights staff members — university support staff and university professional staff — each month for their service to the K-State community.

Mann's nominator said, "She is continually thinking strategically about each student's case and frequently does extensive research to help create the most efficient degree plan possible that is mindful of students' time and money. When students are in a rut, she is ready to help them think strategically about new pathways available to them and the possible outcomes for each. Emily is incredibly passionate in continuing to develop her skills as an advisor that allow her to better serve her students each day."

Peters' nominator shared, "Jesse is our IT support specialist who is helpful, well-informed, patient and responsive. In his role, he works with students, faculty, staff and external clients. He also helps our IT manager in other duties as needed. Jesse makes IT approachable and funny! His kind sense of humor and easygoing attitude relates well to people in an IT crisis or just needing some education on how to use equipment. One of Jesse's best professional attributes is his consistency. He is reliable. Being in the IT office, it is critical that Jesse is available to answer questions and keep our campus staffed as planned. Not only is he able to keep our IT operating smoothly as part of the two-person team, but he is engaged with his work to think through how to make things better and more efficient."

Anyone can nominate eligible employees — student employees and faculty are not eligible for award. Nominees will be reviewed by a University Staff Leadership committee of university support staff and university professional staff representatives. Winners will be featured in K-State Today and will receive $100 from the president's office. Please submit your nominations by the first of each month
