Leadership series continues Dec. 2-3 with Working Across Factions: How to Lead Among Differences

Submitted by Human Resources

The Building Next-Gen Leadership series will continue with its fifth topic, Working Across Factions: How to Lead Among Differences, on Dec. 2-3.

The latest workshop is the third of three to be offered this fall, with three additional workshops coming in the spring. The series, which launched in April, teaches leadership concepts and develops community, especially around the university's Next-Gen K-State strategic plan.  Any employee who aspires to lead, regardless of position or title, is invited to participate.

The December workshop will be offered twice — one in-person session on the Manhattan campus and one virtual session for employees who can't attend in person.  Registration is required.

In-person session
Monday, Dec. 2
12:15-1:45 p.m.
K-State Student Union, Wildcat Chamber
Lunch provided

Virtual session
Tuesday, Dec. 3
8:30-10 a.m.

Workshop description: When exercising leadership, bringing a multitude of voices to the table becomes paramount in our ability to make progress. However, including all these voices means the work is ripe for different opinions and different perspectives, it and introduces different layers to the challenge at hand. The workshop will explore how we take a step back and evaluate all the varying values, loyalties and losses people hold around the work we are trying to accomplish while recognizing the need for focusing on the challenge or opportunity at the center of our work – which is the thing we all have in common.

The series is facilitated by Amanda Cebula, adjunct instructor at K-State’s Staley School of Leadership and former director of project and business development at the Kansas Leadership Center, where she co-authored the book “Your Leadership Edge: Tools and Strategies for When Everyone Leads.” She received her bachelor’s degree in communication studies from K-State, with minors in music and leadership studies. She also earned a master’s degree in management and leadership from Webster University.

The series has been popular with employees, with more than 800 participating in the first four workshops: Courage: Leading Starts With You, Impact: Closing the Gap, Communication: The Art of Listening and Asking Questions and Conflict: How to Make It Productive. Recordings of the workshops are available on the Building Next-Gen Leadership webpage
