Art and Math Seminar meetings resume
Submitted by Natalia Rozhkovskaya
The mathematics department is resuming the online meetings of the interdisciplinary Art and Math Seminar. In fall 2024, the seminar will feature a math magic show, presentations on appearance of mathematics in books and movies, and lectures about the interaction of math and art history studies.
To attend the talks, please complete the registration form.
On Sept. 12, the first meeting of the seminar will feature "A little magic show" by Professor Tadashi Tokieda from Stanford University. Tokieda grew up as a painter in Japan, became a classical philologist in France and now is known as an internationally acclaimed U.S.-based mathematician and popularizer of math and physics. His outreach activities extended to many projects, including teaching at the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences and contributing videos to the Numberphile YouTube channel that collects millions of views.
Other meetings of the semester will include presentations from Ingrid Daubechies from Duke University on Oct. 3, Alex Kasman from College of Charleston on Oct. 15 and John Hatch from Western University, Canada, on Nov. 14.
The schedule of talks can be found on the seminar webpage.
