Move to comfortable proximity
We should also consider the distance between us. We should move as close as cultural practice and personal comfort permits. If we observe as we move, we may see signs of discomfort with proximity. If we stand too close to Friends, they might take a step backward. If so, we should respect that need for distance. Lack of eye contact by Friends could mean discomfort with proximity. If we move back slightly we might see them be more comfortable with eye contact.

Move close without being pushy. This means being aware of the reaction of Friends to our position.
