Position yourself squarely with an open posture
We should be aware of how we position ourselves relative to Friends.
Square means to face Friends squarely. Our point of reference is straight ahead facing Friends, not pointing at an angle in a direction away from him or her. Standing at an angle to Friends implies we want to move away not closer.
An open posture means to hold ourselves in posture of readiness and invitation. Our posture invites Friends to respond. Therefore, the arms are relaxed (not crossed).
A closed posture puts us behind a barrier. Crossing our arms or legs, leaning back in a chair with our hands behind our heads, or sitting behind a desk are all barriers.
When we feel apprehensive, we might retreat behind a barrier. Being open invites a response between equals.
