Principle 21-2
Panic, depression, rage
Out-of-control emotions carry the risk of dangerous, irresponsible behavior.

Panic can lead to unthinking, reckless flight. Instead of managing danger, panic can expose us to even greater risk.

Depression can lead to withdrawal from contact with others and a retreat from experience. Unchecked and isolated, depression could lead to self-destructive behavior.

Rage can cause violent and destructive aggression toward oneself and others. We might hurt someone or ourselves. For example, I once had a friend who hurt himself severely in a rage with he smashed his fist into a plate glass window and cut himself badly.

Next: Anger can kill us
