New course offered for caregivers

Submitted by Linda Teener

K-State Global Campus, UFM Community Learning Center and Meadowlark have teamed up to offer a new blended learning course titled Caregiving for Your Loved One with Dementia.

The number of people affected by dementia and memory-support needs is growing every day and as a result, the need for caregiver resources is evident. This six-week class will be offered through four online modules and two half-day live trainings.

The lead instructor is Dr. Matt Floresch, a Manhattan-area primary care physician who has many years of experience working with aging adults. Dr. Floresch is joined by several guest instructors, including Meadowlark Hills employees Heather Sloan, advanced practice registered nurse; Michelle Haub, speech pathologist; Bridget Larkin, social services leader; and Rita Harsch, financial counselor.

The class will begin on Monday, Oct. 7. Enrollment is open now and can be completed online. The new live training sessions are scheduled for Monday, Nov. 4, and Tuesday, Nov. 5. The cost of the class is $75.

Caring for a loved one with memory-support needs can be an overwhelming, exhausting and confusing experience. If you have any questions, please contact Linda Teener at UFM, lteener@k-state.edu or Sarah Duggan at sguge@meadowlark.org or 785-323-3878.
