Little damage from transformer fire at university dairy unit
A small transformer caught fire at the Kansas State University dairy unit Saturday morning, causing little damage but leading to a small oil spill.

Kansas State University's College of Engineering is being named an American Concrete Institute "Excellent University" for its accomplishments in 2012. The university is one of just 16 to receive the institute's Award for University Student Activities. The honor recognizes universities that participated in institute-related activities.

The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International predicts that Kansas will be among the Top 10 states in the country to see significant economic growth once unmanned aircraft systems are integrated into the national airspace system in 2015, based on anticipated sales, manufacturing and employment. John English to lead College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas

John English, dean of Kansas State University's College of Engineering, has accepted an offer to head the College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas beginning July 1. 


Catering, restaurant showcase at K-State Olathe
Area businesses are invited to attend the 2013 Catering/Restaurant Showcase to sample menu items and interact with caterers and restaurants. The showcase will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at Kansas State University Olathe, 22201 W. Innovation Drive. The event host is the Kansas City chapter of Meeting Professionals International.


Developing leaders at Kansas State University challenged their skills this month with a retreat at Rock Springs 4-H camp near Junction City.

Intrusive advising boosts student persistence, class performance
Getting intrusive could increase student support at universities.


Kansas State University's LGBT Resource Center has been open for less than three years, but it's already having an award-winning impact.


A team of graduate students from Kansas, which includes three students from the Kansas State University department of landscape architecture and regional and community planning, is one of four finalists for the Urban Land Institute's Gerald D. Hines Student Urban Design Competition.


Kansas State University Olathe and the Kansas Enrichment Network at the University of Kansas are partnering to bring an informal science education professional development opportunity to elementary and middle school teachers, March 14 and 15, at K-State Olathe, 22201 W. Innovation Drive.


Helping students new to Kansas State University feel right at home will be the job of 27 current students who have been selected to serve with the university's Wildcat Warm-up program.

Two faculty earn prestigious honor from architecture education association 
Kansas State University has become the first university in the nation to have two faculty members earn the prestigious Distinguished Professor award from the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, or ACSA, in the same year.


The Urban Water Institute at Kansas State University Olathe has a new program coordinator. Campus CEO Dan Richardson has named Joan Leavens to the position. She begins Monday, March 4.


When Desiree Harpel first started her major in fisheries, wildlife and conservation biology, she thought being a wildlife ranger might be her only career option. But thanks to a National Science Foundation-funded undergraduate research mentoring program at Kansas State University, Harpel has discovered how the research side of her major can lead to her dream career.


The exhibit "Righteous Among the Nations: Help of Polish people for the Jewish population in southern Poland in the years 1939-1945" opens today at Kansas State University Olathe, 22201 W. Innovation Drive. The exhibit, which runs through March 22, is free and open to the public.

Spring enrollment, diversity set records at Kansas State University
 
Kansas State University can add another point of pride to its successes throughout the past 150 years: a record spring enrollment and a more multinational student body than ever before.


The celebrated Switzerland-based theater company Mummenschanz is returning to Manhattan with its 40th anniversary show at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, in McCain Auditorium.
