Kansas State University is remembering former President Duane Acker, who died on Dec. 13 in his hometown of Atlantic, Iowa. Acker served as K-State's 11th president from 1975-1986.
During his tenure, a major focus was construction on campus. He led the building of several significant new buildings including Durland and Bluemont halls. His fundraising efforts supported the building of Bramlage Coliseum. The Chester E. Peters Recreation Complex was also built and dedicated while he was president. Acker also served as the associate dean of the College of Agriculture at K-State from 1962-1966.
"President Acker's legacy is etched into the very foundations of our campus," said Richard Linton, K-State president. "His visionary leadership transformed the K-State physical landscape, bringing to life critical facilities. We greatly appreciate his commitment to providing our students and community with world-class resources and spaces for learning, research and engagement."
