What's next? Academic Success and Student Affairs helps students plan ahead

Submitted by Division of Academic Success and Student Affairs

Even though the spring semester is just getting started, it's a great time for students to start prepping for what's next. Getting themselves set up for fall 2025, or for life after graduation, takes a little bit of advanced planning. The Division of Academic Success and Student Affairs is ready to help students chart out their next courses, or make the transition to graduate or professional school, or a career.

  • Make plans to meet with their advisor — All students are required to meet with their academic advisor at least once per semester. Students are in the driver's seat of their academic career, and advisors are the co-pilots who are there to help them navigate the course. Advisors help students enroll in courses, map out a plan of action, develop critical thinking skills and make decisions regarding their academic career. Students can connect with their advisors by logging in to Navigate and locating the Resources button. Their advisor is listed under "People."
  • Determine next steps for professional program applications — Students considering a career in a professional field, such as law, medicine, pharmacy, physical therapy, dentistry, nursing or veterinary medicine should connect with a pre-professional advisor. Separate from their academic advisor, a pre-professional advisor provides guidance and programming to students with a pre-professional designation. Find the Pre-Professional and Exploratory Advising Center in Room 114 of the Berney Family Welcome Center or email at ppac@k-state.edu
  • Enhance students' career readiness — The Career Center facilitates students' career readiness so they can enter the next chapter confidently. Students can get free career assessments, job search training, career advising, employer connections and so much more. To get started, students should set up their free Handshake account. Then, encourage them to connect with the Career Center in the Berney Family Welcome Center to take advantage of all available resources.
