Christine Aikens recognized as Professor of the Week

Christine Aikens was recognized as a Professor of the Week at the Feb. 15 women's home basketball game. Faculty Senate, the Office of the President and K-State Athletics wish to recognize her contributions to K-State.
Professor Aikens was named University Distinguished Professor in 2020, only thirteen years after accepting her very first academic position. Christine has maintained a very high level of productivity regarding peer-reviewed publications and research output. Christine and her group have published close to 80 peer-reviewed articles, and she has given about 60 lectures worldwide.
Since 2015, Christine has brought in $1,780,000 from four single PI grants and about $700,000 from collaborative grants. In recognition of Christine’s accomplishments, she received the Women Chemists’ Committee Rising Star Award in 2020 from the American Chemical Society and she received the 2017-2018 Commerce Bank and W. T. Kemper Foundation Distinguished Graduate Faculty Award. At the national level, Christine has been very active in the American Chemical Society where she currently serves on the Meetings and Exhibitions Committee of the ACS, which is responsible for overseeing the two national ACS meetings and many regional meetings. She is the current Chair of the Technical Programming Subcommittee, which oversees the technical programming at the national meetings.
The Professor of the Week recognition is coordinated by Faculty Senate, the President's office and K-State Athletics. Recipients are faculty members selected by Faculty Senate caucuses. Those selected are provided tickets to a men's or women's home basketball game of their choosing and are recognized during halftime. This is just a small token of appreciation for those who teach at K-State.
