Vote for the People's Choice award at the 3MT final competition

Submitted by Megan Miller

Eleven graduate students will compete in the final round of the Three Minute Thesis, or 3MT, competition at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, in the K-State Student Union Ballroom. The presentations are open to the public. Please RSVP if you plan to attend. A live stream is available on the Graduate School website.

The 3MT competition challenges graduate students to present their graduate research topic and its significance to a non-expert audience in three minutes using a single static slide. It is an exciting way to learn about the important and interesting work K-State graduate students are conducting with their faculty mentors.

A highlight of the 3MT is the opportunity for the audience to vote on their favorite presentation of the night to select the people's choice winner, who will receive a $125 scholarship. People's Choice voting is limited to in-person attendees. Voting will not be available for live stream viewers.

Additionally, first- and second-place winners will be selected from judge evaluations. The first-place winner will receive a $500 scholarship and will represent K-State at the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools 3MT competition on Apr. 4 in Indianapolis. The second-place winner will receive a $250 scholarship. New this year, the Center for the Advancement of Entrepreneurship will present an award for the best commercial potential. K-State's Chapter of Sigma Xi will also provide recognition for all 3MT finalists.

The finale begins with a social period at 5:30 p.m. with appetizers and refreshments, and the competition begins at 6 p.m. Visit the 3MT website for a list of the finalists, to RSVP, to access the live stream and for more information.
