K-State launches Engagement Council to strengthen university impact

Submitted by Office of Engagement

Kansas State University is launching the K-State Engagement Council, an initiative designed to enhance engagement efforts and expand the university’s impact across Kansas and beyond. Faculty, staff and campus-based K-State Research and Extension professionals are invited to join this collaborative effort to further develop capacity through training and networking opportunities, fostering collaboration and the sharing of best practices.

“As a land-grant institution, engagement is at the heart of K-State’s mission,” said Mirna Bonilla, program manager in the Office of Engagement. “The Engagement Council provides a dedicated space for faculty and staff to further develop their skills, collaborate across disciplines and contribute to K-State’s long-term impact.”

K-State’s Engagement Council aligns with the university’s strategic plan — specifically integrating engagement across all we do. This initiative aims to:

  • Strengthen capacity — Build employees’ skills in engagement and external partnerships.

  • Enhance alignment — Create a shared understanding of engagement priorities.

  • Expand networks — Connect faculty, staff and community partners to drive research, teaching and service impact.

Engagement spans various activities, from engaged scholarship to hosting events showcasing a unit’s work. The Engagement Council is open to all K-State faculty, staff and campus-based K-State Research and Extension professionals involved in engagement. Participation is flexible, with options to take part in training or stay informed via the EngageChamps listserv.

The Engagement Council’s first networking event will be held from 4-5 p.m. on March 24. Individuals interested in receiving communications about the event can sign up by completing a brief Qualtrics survey.
