Friday First-Gen Focus
Today's film features Lisa Mead and is titled "Overcoming Childhood Trauma." As has been often the case, this film segment is drawn from the College of Education's "A Walk in My Shoes: First Generation College Students," a film which has been broadcast on Kansas Public Television and celebrated by First Lady Michelle Obama; a film which NACADA promotes among its nearly 14,000 members worldwide and which the Suder Foundation promotes among the universities with which it partners in the U.S.; a film which helps all of us involved in higher education — faculty, staff, students, alumni, benefactors, legislators, parents and other family members, the public at large — better understand and appreciate the distinctive challenges which first-generation students often face as they strive to become the first in their immediate family to empower themselves by earning a bachelor's degree.
