Ringing in a new era for K-State Telefund
Submitted by Jeff Pfannenstiel
The strong tradition of Telefund is a great K-State story that is about to get even better.
For more than 30 years, student volunteers have been making calls to alumni to seek their support for scholarships and other programs in the academic colleges. K-State’s dedicated alumni have generously answered the call. These calls take place over a five-week period in the spring, which necessarily limits the number of alumni who can be engaged in these calls.
Beginning this summer, K-State Telefund will be expanded to a year-round program. There are significant benefits to the expansion, including:
- The number of alumni reached will expand from 30,000 to more than 100,000
- Revenue to colleges will rise
- The creation of 60+ new student jobs
"We know that the opportunity for our students and alumni to share their K-State experience through Telefund calls is very positive for both groups," said Fred Cholick, president and CEO of the Kansas State University Foundation. "Expanding Telefund to a year-round program means that we can reach out to more K-Staters."
"Telefund provides important resources for our colleges," said K-State President Kirk Schulz. "And, just as important, is the opportunity it creates for students and alumni to connect. This doesn’t mean that alumni will be called more often, but they may receive a call at different times of the year."
