College of Education journal celebrates 40th anniversary
Educational Considerations, a leading peer-reviewed journal in the field of educational leadership published in the College of Education, is celebrating its 40th anniversary.
The biannual publication was first produced in 1973 — just eight years after the college was established. David Thompson, professor and chair of the department of educational leadership, has served as chair of the board of editors since 1990.
Dean Debbie Mercer credits the publication’s success to Thompson’s leadership, whose tenure with the publication exceeds half of its 40 years.
“Educational Considerations’ long-running tenure as a voice for educational issues, particularly educational finance and policy issues, is due in large part to the leadership provided by Dr. Thompson,” Mercer said. “His carefully selected thematic issues focus on real challenges and impact education discussions in a meaningful and substantive way.”
Thompson believes the publication’s germane content is the driving force behind its wide distribution in Kansas, nationally and internationally.
“The journal has flourished for 40 years because of its relevance to the world of theory and practice, as well as theory into practice,” Thompson said. “I am particularly pleased that in 2012 it became an affiliate journal for the National Education Finance Conference. Also, the journal is indexed with several national databases, and we recently finished uploading files for all prior years to EBSCO.”
