Gymnasium and Natatorium demolition project set to begin this week
Beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 26, the university will begin site preparations for fencing the construction site for the demolition of the Gymnasium and Natatorium buildings.
The fence will be erected around the Gymnasium and Natatorium with careful consideration for the safety of all community members, staff, faculty and students. Please pay attention to designated detours and revised access points while this construction fence is in place.
As previously communicated on Sept. 13, 2022, and June 15, 2023, in K-State Today, this project is a crucial step in our ongoing commitment to address the deferred maintenance backlog and elevate the quality of our campus spaces. In the ongoing mission to preserve the rich histories of our buildings, we continue to document this heritage through photographs, drawings, written reports and 3D scanning in line with the Historic American Buildings Survey guidelines. This ensures that the history remains accessible for future generations.
The anticipated completion is July 2024.
During the construction phase, access to the Gymnasium, Natatorium and Ahearn Field House will be fully restricted for safety reasons. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Additionally, please be aware that the sidewalk between the Natatorium and Memorial Stadium will be closed beginning Friday, Sept. 29, and will remain closed through the summer of 2024 with detour routes clearly marked.
We understand that these necessary changes may cause temporary inconveniences, but we are committed to ensuring a safe and efficient construction process. Your patience and cooperation during this period are greatly appreciated as we work to enhance our university's facilities for the future.
For updates and additional information, please refer to the periodic K-State Today announcements and notices posted around the affected areas.
Thank you for your continued support as we strive to create an even better K-State community.
