Music teaching associate professor hosts recruitment day, Bassoon Afternoon
Submitted by the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance
The Bassoon Studio in the School of Music, Theatre, and Dance will host its Bassoon Afternoon recruitment day on Saturday, May 4.
The theme this year is the Paris Olympics, with "events" for participants to engage and learn about the instrument. It is also a performance for Susan Maxwell, studio professor and director of the K-State Bassoon Ensemble.
Registration is free for fifth through 12th graders online at kstatebassoon.com.
Maxwell has dedicated her career to three dimensions of musicianship; she is a teacher, performer and reedmaker. Maxwell is the first developer and retailer of a bassoon tool created and named for a woman. It has been awarded by the Kansas State University Research Grant Funds and was celebrated in the 75 years of K-State Invention and Intellectual Property event. Maxwell’s performance engagements have included the Kansas City Symphony, The Kansas City Lyric Opera, The Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, Lincoln Symphony, Wichita Symphony, Wichita Grand Opera, Chamber Orchestra of the Smokey Valley, The Tulsa Philharmonic, The Lake Shore Symphony in Chicago, Illinois, and Orquesta Sinfónica de Nuevo León in Monterrey, Mexico.
